[PyrNet-L] Rescue, Chat: 5 Pyrs in Ardmore Shelter

<< Well, I could not stand it -- so I talked my husband into driving to
Ardmore, OK. Mind you I was taking 3 Pyrenees to their new homes in and near
Dallas any how. Bonnie Bear the pyr rescued from Waco, Shadow and Big Boy all
went to new homes on my way north.
We met and picked up an owner turn in Electra. Electra is a small 6 mos
old intact female who is missing 3 toes on her front foot. Electra was taking
too much time according to her owner. She is not current on her shots but is
now not due for the last of her puppy shots for 3 weeks(she just got her
second set). She is a heavily marked female who is very sweet but very shy.
We drove on to Ardmore from Dallas where the 3 pyrs I brought with me
were placed into the hands of the new owners.
We arrived in Ardmore at 8 PM-- the shelter knew I was on my way but we
were a lot later than we thought we would be since we hit Dallas during rush
hour traffic!! I was worried no one would be at the shelter-- and there was
not but there was a note on the door of the shelter -- Pyr rescue call Carol
at (phone number) and she will come and open the shelter for you. I called
her and 10 min. later she arrived and let us into the kennels. The shelter
was full but she informed me that thanks to the internet the dogs were all
waiting for rescue or already adopted!! She stated that in the 4 hrs she
manned the phones that day she must have gotten over 200 calls and most of
them were breed rescue that had found out via the internet that the seizure
had taken place!!
We turned the 5 dogs out of their run. One little female just sat in
the back of the kennel. She was finally coaxed out by my husband-- she is now
called Echo. She was very sweet but acted like she had never been out of a
kennel in her life..
She is pregnant-- about 4 weeks(my guess). She is very small almost half the
size she should be(small in size-- not drastically under weight)-- without
weighing her I guess 45 lbs. She has been given her first 7 in one shot--
still needs a rabies. She needs to be spay but I am not sure that is a good
idea-- since she is so far along in her pregnancy. Any one out there know
about the medical safety of spaying a pg dog? She loves being fed-- but I
have been careful to not give her enought to get sick from too much, too rich,
too fast!! Echo loves children, she runs up to my son and wants to play.
Her running mate is now called Isis, she is a solid white and more out-
going. She picked me out and came up to me for loving. She is also pregnant
and once again I want to guess 4 weeks. Both dogs were covered in ticks. So
I stayed up this morning and dipped both dogs for both ticks and possible
mange my vet recommeded that even if they did not have mange on scrapings on
the sites they could see. She loves chldren.
Both girls will be for adoption after they have been spay.
Terry Reese, also an independent rescuer in OK was to pick up the last
two today since a resident of Ardmore adopted the 5th dog. I have not heard
that Terry did get the dogs but she was suppose to be there Sat AM.
I am going to bed it has been a long couple of days. I will keep you
posted on Echo and Isis
