Re: [PyrNet-L] Compatibility with birds

Graham, I have four 23 mo. old Pyr. siblings. One male, three female (
neutered and spayed ). We also have a Cockatiel, Patagonian conure, a
rat, as well as a small Shih-Tzu. Oh, and three cats. While I always
monitor the small critters with the Pyrs. I have not had a problem. Only
one female might give me a problem as she can be dominant, and does not
like the birds coming back at her nose, and of course the birds do think
they can take the dog on. The rest of the dogs jump up and get out of
the biting beaks way! But none aggressively go after any of the smaller
animals. They do tend to get very sniffy where the rat is concerned, but
no attitude is involved, and I Would only be concerned about the rat or
birds being pawed in curiosity. I find Pyr. personalities to be as nice
as you could ever hope for in a breed. They are gentle devoted cuddlers.
If a young pup is raised with your African, and you use basic common
sense and do not let the parrot abuse the pup when it is young, I do not
see a problem. I know a few people on this list have commented about
their birds, and I think there is someone else with an African Gray. as
far as the breed itself, you couldn't do better!
Good Luck with your choices! Cindy.
