[pyrnet] Rescue and Fencing Requirements

Peggy and Bonnie, I don't know if the fencing/Rescue issue has
been addressed as I have been much too busy to catch up on all my
mail, but I'd like to jump in here. You may be responsible people
with your dogs, but most are not. And Rescue has no way of
knowing who is and is not responsible, hence, the fence
requirement and home checks. As far as letting dogs run loose
because one lives in the country, my sister did this when she
moved to a farm in WV. Couldn't understand why her dogs kept
traveling 1 1/2 miles to the 4 lane to get hit by cars. These
were Lab mixes. She is now a puppy miller and it makes me sick.
Dogs tied on 3 foot chains with no shelter, etc. Fed and watered
when she feels like it. But my main point here is that Rescue has
no way of knowing who will be careful without a fence, unless we
know the people personally. And, when we place a Rescue dog, that
dog is our responsibility for the rest of it's life, just as it
should have been the breeder's responsibility for the rest of
it's life. Even people with good fencing have dogs get out. It's
happened to me as well. Accidents happen, but Rescue, for the
good of the dogs they place, must have requirements such as
fencing to minimize any accidents that may happen.

The more people I meet, the more I like my dog!
