I am not trying to convert anyone here to BARF. I have done a little
digging though.
Have you read :
Give your Dog a Bone by Dr Ian Billinghurst (Vet) - Grow Your Pups With
Bones by Dr Ian Billinghurst - The BARF Diet by Dr Ian Billinghurst - his
newest book.
I have read one out of these three, and I learned so much on health and
nutrition, and feeding my dogs the natural way. I am a member of three
BARF lists, and have gained so much insight.
One thing that was pointed out when I first started reading and
gathering information was that commercial dog foods carried hardly any if
at all essential fatty acids; hence, some breeds were seeing the vet more,
for skin problems. Many commercial dog food manufactures are adding
the Omega oils. Now, as opposed to a year or two ago…essential fatty acids
are on the ingredient labels, and are being heavily marketed as having the
"Omegas".
With change comes marketing…Look for the symbol of approval on the side
of the food bag. Why? Because we want you to know what we have added to
our kibble, for your dogs health. And we want you to feel our support in
your decision to giving your dog the best. And are intimidated by these
BARF questions. These statements are JIMHO… they are how I feel when I
hear/read a dog food ad.
If you want to end the debate for yourself about commercial dog food
-vs- a BARF diet. READ, not only what information commercial
dog food manufactures provide, but also books that cover BARF research,
experience, and information. Commercial dog food started as an over cooked
human biscuit that was tossed to a dog.
How much time is spent on nutritional intake of our furry friends in
pre vet? I have heard 2 weeks…I am still digging for the answer.
After all, we are all adults now, and we can make up our own minds
…Right? If you want to dig for it! The information is there. Or we can
just take what we are fed!
What works for me may not work for you.
Have A Great Day, and Good Luck
