Dirk being diagnosed that early with hip dysplasia is probably more indicative of a genetic problem -- but of course not necessarily so. If the behavior you describe is consistant and frequent, call your vet and explain, ask if Dirk needs to be assessed again. It is certainly worth getting a re-evaluation.
