Re: [pyrnet] Puppy growled over a dea mouse - response?

My family had a bad experience with a Malamute who was sometimes food
possesive so I have always had my fingers in my dogs' mouths as early and
often as possible. I start reaching into the food bowl while the dog is
eating, especially if it is a treat, and take out a piece or two when they
are puppies and repeat throughout their lives. I also lift their lips and
"check" their teeth while I am patting them at random times. I sometimes
brush their teeth too, but not as often as the dentist would say is
appropriate. This way they are accustomed to interference and accept it,
not quite the same as giving up the dead mouse, but at least when you reach
in for it, the dog is used to your hand being in his mouth.
