I think you all might be missing something. . .

If a victim does have multiple personalities, the only reason a manitou 
would chose that person as a host would be because the MPD/DID/whatever the 
book-selling term is this week/ would give the manitou an advantage.

If the victim does have several distinct multiple personalities (if such a 
condition even exists), then the manitou is in for a tasty treat.

Instead of hearing the anguished screams of the one host, the manitou now 
has several voices crying out in it's ear.  Especially if the manitou 
establishes dominance and "kills" one of the personalities, squishing it 
out of existence in front of the other "people".  Heck, such a person would 
be easy for a manitou - instead of dominating a whole mind, it could just 
subjugate the victim one little fractured fragment at a time.

That could be the whole basis of the battle for dominion.
