Re: [DL] Why do people grumble about deadlands d20?

okay, disclaimer first.... I'm a big fan of Deadlands, PEG and especially Shane, however critizism is necessary when warranted....

Classic DL players DID get the shaft with Deadlands: Lost Colony.... and D20 is to blame... Lost Colony was nowhere near your best work..... arguably your worst. Too much space was eaten up for D20 rules, space that could have been used to make LC the product you origionally invisioned.

We just had a discussion about how god-awful the D&D movie was... what made it worse was WoTC trying to hype it up (in the pages of Dragon Magazine) even after it was clear to everyone it sucked more than Highlander II or Ishtar. There is no other way to put this.... The Lost Colony Rulebook is a piece of crap. You can do better. You have done better. I've seen it. I am very disappointed in you, Shane.

I didn't think the deadlands d20 book was that bad.

Although the way books could be slightly better designed.

I don't think anyone here thinks they're bad--there was just a lot of initial resistance from those who liked Classic DL, and perhaps were worried they were going to get the shaft. ;) That's all settled down now, and besides a few folks on a couple of bulletin boards, I don't receive any complaints here and we've been sold out for quite a while.

Funny thing is, those who complained on one of the boards said they didn't like it because it stuck so close to original D20. ;)

Oh well. Some of the people some of the time and all that.
