I bathe once a month and do spot cleaning as needed.  One thing I found that
works great is powder the dog with Johnson's Baby Powder with Cornstarch,
rub it in, and then give a good brushing.  The coat seems to whiten up,
especially dirty paws, and the dog smells really good!  The biggest draw
back is that you have to dust the house more often as it seems everything is
coated with a fine film of baby powder.

It's true about pyrs not being stinky dogs, though.  My two hardly ever are
smelly; they don't even get that "wet dog" smell.  Sometimes their breath is
deadly.  I've been brushing their teeth once a week with Tom's of Maine
orange flavored toothpaste for kids.  The dogs like it and it seems to
freshen them up.
