Not necesssarily.  In my part of the country you can buy a well bred, well
planned, well reared, well guaranted pup for $500-600.  In many cases out of
champion and health tested parents.  That's probably really low for the east
coast (and many other places) but it works for us.  Also, from most breeders
you can add on the cost of having the pups altered before they leave the
breeder.
